===========================================
I was born in Windsor, N.S.W., a small town West of Sydney at the base of the Blue Mountains on 6th September 1952 to Maurice Mitchell and Teresa Mitchell (nee Webster).

My father belonged to the R.A.A.F. and was working at the Richmond Airbase as a wireless operator. Shortly after this time we moved to Narraweena on the Northern Beaches of Sydney near Dee Why. My father purchased a block of land and built a small building for us to live in.

Things didn’t go according to my father’s plans in the marriage stakes - as they separated when I was about 3 years old. I went to live with my Aunty Meg at Bondi Junction while my father got his life together after the separation. Once Dad decided it was time to move on - we both moved to Ramsgate, a short distance south of Sydney and there we boarded with another family for a small time. I attended Ramsgate Public School for a short time and then we moved to Caringbah and boarded with a lovely Scottish family. Soon after we moved to Gymea and lived with a devoutly Irish Catholic family. I attended Gymea Catholic School and was sent to Church every Sunday. My father finally had a falling-out with the landlady - as her religious constitution didn’t agree with him. He felt I was being brainwashed so we moved on again, this time settling in with a widow - Jean Titcum - and her daughter Janet at 62 Manchester Road, Gymea. We stayed together as a family here for 10 years. My father married Jean in 1964 at the Gymea Methodist Church.

My father had by now taken me out of the Catholic School and enrolled me at Gymea Bay Public School. I still went to Church though, but this time it was the Church of England just up the road from the Catholic Church. In 1962 I joined the Scouting movement as a Cub and later on became a Scout, Senior Scout and Rover. These were good days with lots of friends and lots of adventures. Gymea was a wonderful place to grow up. The house had a large block of land and was well-treed. The land was later donated to the Scouting movement as my father had no money to develop the land and Sutherland Shire Council was quite inhibitive about its development.

In 1965 I was enrolled at Port Hacking High School, which was about a 15 minute walk from our house towards Miranda.

After finishing High School in 1968 and obtaining my school certificate I became apprenticed to an electrician. This was dirty work and I hated the Technical College Course. I got an apprenticeship as a Hand and Machine Compositor in 1969 at a Printing firm called Smith & Miles in Kent Street, Sydney. This was when type was set in lead on a Ludlow and Linotype machine. After a 4-year apprenticeship I met Lorene (my wife) at a Scout function held at Heathcote. We started going out together - although the distance between our houses was quite large. She lived in Sefton which was west of Sydney and I lived in Gymea which was south - a distance of about 25kms. We became engaged and I worked for Cumberland Newspapers at Parramatta. We were married on 27th July, 1974 and purchased a house at Greystanes - west of Parramatta for $27,000. I was retrenched from Cumberland Newspapers in 1977 and started employment at North Sydney as a Typesetter. Pre-press printing in the interim had gone from machines (hot metal) to computers. We had a house built at Terrigal - on the Central Coast - and moved there in 1981 and we both commuted to Sydney everyday. By this time we had three children - Amanda, Leigh and Melanie.

In 1989 we purchased a small business (Video Shop) in Wamberal - a suburb just north of Terrigal. I was still working in North Sydney until 1990 when I started a job at Central Coast Printing because the commuting was getting quite tedious. Buying the business was good for us at the time - as it was close to home.

Technology overtook the business around the late 1990's and we felt we had enough of running our business after 15 years. In 2003 we sold the business and Lori and I are currently employed at Scribal - a Central Coast Print Promotions business.

WE NOW HAVE 3 GRAND CHILDREN - NOAH LACHLAN, AMELIA JOY & MAIA CATE
